Appraiser Licensing Requirements

Students who complete the R1, R2 and USPAP course will qualify for a New Jersey Real Estate Appraisal Apprentice permit. No State Exam is required for the Permit. Also, an excellent course to help increase your listing and sales ability.

New Jersey Appraiser Classifications as of 1/1/2008

A separate examination is given after each of the courses (R1-R2 and USPAP). A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to students who satisfactorily complete the course. This certificate must be presented to the State Appraisal Board to receive a permit.

State-Licensed Residential Real Estate Appraiser (SLRREA) - Completion of 150 classroom hours of real estate appraisal courses including 15 hours of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices, 2000 hours of appraisal experience, and successful completion of the State licensed real estate appraiser examination. 

State-Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser (SCRREA) - Completion of 200 classroom hours of real estate appraisal courses including 15 hours of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices.  Associate degree or higher is also required, or in lieu thereof, 21 college level semester hours in specific courses and 2500 hours of appraisal experience in not less than 24 months.

State-Certified General Real Estate Appraiser (SCGREA) - Completion of 300 classroom hours of real estate appraisal courses including 15 hours of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices.  Bachelors degree or higher is also required, or in lieu thereof, 30 college level semester hours in specific courses and 3000 hours of appraisal experience in not less than 30 months (at least 1500 hours must reflect non-residential appraisals), and successful completion of the State licensed real estate appraiser examination.
